Development with Health, Education, Environment and Infrastructure: Lingaraj Urs
#HEEI: Health, Education, Environment and Infrastructure are some major words for Aam Aadmi Party Candidates in Karnataka. Young or experienced, all candidates are fighting for a better and corruption free society; and Lingaraj Urs is one of them. He decided to fight Karnataka assembly elections after a successful 2015 Panchayat Election from Kannamangala. Lingaraj has always been inspired by his late grandfather Devraj Urs (former CM of Karnataka) to be in political arena. Coming from a middle class family and background, he is determined to serve the community.
Panchayat: Lingaraj Urs started his career in sales and operations. In 1995 Lingaraj headed Genisys India operations followed by operations in other countries. The company generated more than 10,000 jobs in India. After a successful career, Lingaraj quit the job and decided to serve the community by contesting panchayat elections. People from Kannamangala believed in Lingaraj and gave him a chance in 2015. He is focused on health, education, environment and civic amenities & infrastructure in his panchayat. The necessary amenities provided to government schools impacted around 1200 children who decided to remain in govt schools. With waste segregation and management practised in every household, a village is converted into a modern village. All the beneficiaries are issued a health card by collaborating with best hospitals in Bangalore which also includes a 25% discount for card holders. Street lights, concrete roads, water drains, RO water plants and drinking water facilities for every household are adding another layer of development a village can have.

KR Puram: After a successful demonstration and converting a village into modern village, Lingaraj decided to take his endeavors to another level. He decided to fight assembly elections from KR Puram by joining Aam Aadmi Party. AAP has provided a platform for like minded people who want to bring the change they are dreaming for. With all chances given to all the major parties, change is far from reality. It has been more than 10 years, both BJP and Congress ruled KR Puram but it still lacks basic facilities. Wherever you go and look, there is complete breakdown of governance and corruption is at its highest level. With his focus on #HEEI, Lingaraj is determined to bring the change to KR Puram and Karnataka.
Opponent: Present Congress MLA BA Basavaraj and (most likely) past (2008 -2013) BJP MLA Nandiesha Reddy will be contesting against Lingaraj Urs. The constituency has received around 4,000 crores of funds during 13th (2008, BJP MLA) and 14th (2013, Congress MLA) assembly sessions but development is yet to happen. It doesn’t appear on ground that 4,000 crores have been spent, and this is all because of corruption. Plants are inaugurated but not operational, around 50% crime committed in Bangalore happens in KR Puram, rapid encroachment of lakes and depletion of water bodies are major issues in KR Puram. Natural resources are exploited harshly. By default, impaired government schools and hospitals are everywhere. All these problems still exists even when constituency is represented by both major parties of India (i.e. Congress and BJP).
Campaign: While other party candidates are playing with money and have expensive hoardings on every corner, AAP is running its campaign in very innovative way. With some visibility by displaying hoardings at strategic corners, AAP candidates and volunteers are focused on door-to-door campaigning. Past the midpoint of campaign and after being on ground for 2+ months, all 9 wards of KR Puram are covered. During pamphlet distribution to around 90,000 households, the team met many key people in the society. This effort is still in process. Lingaraj personally met people in his constituency including businessmen, administrators, educators and doctors. All of them are very impressed with his #HEEI plan and standing in support of Lingaraj and AAP. Everyone wants to see the change as they all are fed up from the present system and the opportunities being continually snatched away.

Water Bodies: Disappearing lakes and natural resources are major issues in Karnataka. In Feb 2018, Bellandur Lake caught fire due to pollution. Foam can be seen in lakes due to untreated water/sewage allowed in lakes. With participation, representation, protest and awareness; peoples are trying to save the lakes. It’s not just protesting and awareness, Lingaraj is also actively working with Lake Development Authority in finding the solutions. Lingaraj and team are determined to save lakes in the area and it is one of the items in his agenda on environmental sustainability.
Election Promises: As mentioned in the beginning, #HEEI included items are key for Lingaraj in his constituency. Health for affordable health services at accessible distance, Education for best government schools with quality education and infrastructure, Environment for saving natural resources and lakes; and civic Infrastructure for other basic needs. With his experience and expertise, it is possible to eradicate corruption out of the system and Lingaraj is confident about it.
